Jesus In Chacos

There is a side of high school and college students that isn't often seen in the world ... but at T Bar M Camps, we get to see it in abundance.

On the opening day of each camp session, each camper takes a swim test. If our lifeguard staff sees the test is too hard, we have life jackets for them to wear. And each time a camper puts one on ... so does their coach.

I know it's a little thing ... not super spiritual ... never makes the video ... but man, it gets me every time.

That coach doesn't need to wear a life jacket. I am pretty sure they are not FUAGNEM (camp speak for Fired Up And Going Nuts Every Minute) about putting it on. Comfort and coolness are not part of the package that comes with a life jacket. But, they do it ... and never seem to mind.

Can't you see Jesus doing the same thing? You have to wear a life jacket and are anxious?  Oh, don't worry, I'll put one on too.

The ropes course seems too scary or difficult? Wait a minute, I'll put a harness on and walk with you.

Don't worry if you don't know where something is in the Bible; I will come over and show you.

You need someone to lean on? Someone to trust? I'm here for you.

Long, hard journey ahead of you?  Let me lace up my shoes ... I am with you every step of the way.

We see these students give up time, comfort and probably some significant cash to come to the Texas Hill Country and live like Jesus. While they aren't perfect like our Savior is ... they sure do model for our campers (and us) how to serve and love like Jesus. When they are in action, we can really only see one thing ... Jesus.

Philippians 2:5-11  says it well ...

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

It's an amazing thing to see "Jesus with chacos on" running around camp.
It makes me wonder, with the same mindset of Jesus ... what will be different in my day?

We cannot thank our coaches enough for striving to love like Jesus.
They sure make us smile (and giggle too)!
